Christmas Island
Indian Ocean Jewels
christmas-islands-map.jpg

The Christmas islands lie 350km south of Java and Sumatra and around 1550 km northest from the nearest land point of Australia. We left Jakarta on the 24th of November 2018 to explore the jewels of the Indian ocean; Christmas and Cocos Keeling Islands. These islands are Australian external territories.

We were here to explore it's land and underwater landscape and to witness the famous red crab migration that happens at the end of the year from the months of Oct-Jan when the first rains fall that moisture the air allowing the red crabs to migrate to the sea to lay their eggs. This migration is one of nature's wonderment and is documented well.  To read more about this natural spectacle, visit https://www.christmas.net.au/experiences/red-crab-migration.html
